Great timely service and attention to a detailed inspection of my 2010 Dodge 4×4 diesel. No other shop could find the memory steering problem AKA "wandering " -after I installed new ball joints ,U joints,hubs and drag link. Took it to several mechanic/ alignment shops, one shop said to take the truck to Gem State diesel so I did. No more steering issues.

This was my first time using this shop. I booked an appointment for my F350 6.7 based off of a couple of referrals from a friend and another mechanic that doesn’t work on diesels. I was happy with the service I got from the first phone call. It had the feel of a small personable shop but at the same time felt like high end professional quality. Nick was very laid back but also listened to what my issues were. They suggested several things that needed attention but I could only afford the coolant leak that I brought it in for. They were very understandable and did just what I asked, and suggested some of the things I could take care of on my own. Nick told me they were a little behind and it might be a few days which I was fine with but got the truck done the next day. That never happens. So far so good. I will take my truck here again. Thanks guys.

For some time I've been searching for a reliable shop with qualified diesel mechanics that I could trust. I wanted a shop that communicated well with their customers. I was tired of hearing the dealer constantly trying to get me into their shop so they could recalibrate my computer to Ca. emissions. I don't live in California. So I searched around and nailed it down to two shops and I was very pleased with my first choice, Gem State Diesel. Unfortunately for me I had blown my turbo, not a cheap repair, and not really a DIY project. You need a qualified mechanic for this repair. I got a quote from GSD and felt the price was fair. When the work was finished I was impressed that my truck was as clean as when I left it with them. When I got home I went over their work and I couldn't find any lose bolts they had forgotten to tighten. No coolant or oil spilled on my engine. It was super clean, as it should be. Impressively clean. It takes top notch work to impress me. I was impressed and my trust for this shop was building. On the communication level, Nick is top notch. This shop is super clean and does great work. There are not to many Diesel shops I would recommend. But, Gem State is not just any shop. They provide quality work, communication and competitive pricing. Everything I was looking for. I would highly recommend Gem State Diesel. I didn't want to leave a review until I actually went and road tested my truck. I drove it up to McCall and it performed flawlessly. If your truck needs repaired, make GSD your first choice.

If you are looking very a clean shop with very compentant and honest staff and diesel mechanics to work on your diesel truck, definitely go here. They diagnosed my issue on my truck in less than a day, fixed it and also did my transmission service and crankcase filter and had it all of this done in 2 days. The repair I had done fixed my engine code issue. It was done under estimate cost abd promptly. Gem State did a thorough diagnosis and inspection, and provided a list of items that should be addressed which was nice to have. I chose to do some of them myself, which they were fine with. They include a 25000 warranty on their work!

I took my 05 Silverado in to get some leaks and minor faults checked out. Went in with the intention of getting it fixed up enough to sell immediately following. Nick helped me out and gave me some great advice. Didn't push any unnecessary fixes to run up the bill and broke down everything wrong and what I could work around. He asked what my intentions were and my budget to get a better idea of how to help the best he could. I will be taking my next truck here. Very friendly and trustworthy

Once again my truck threw a check engine light when I was camping in a remote place out of state and was about to put me in limp mode, when I called the guys at Gem. This time it was the cursed DEF system, but they worked me into a full shop and got me out that same day! I can't thank them enough, instead of camping out at Motel 6, I was back on my way out to the woods to enjoy the rest of my trip!

I loved their honesty and the way they took care of my Dodge Ram Cummins pickup! I put gas in by mistake and I was afraid I had done a lot of damage by driving it . They drained it cleaned it and after inspection I was told my truck was not damaged! They could have claimed that I did some damage and I would not have known! I am very grateful I had it towed to Gem State Deisel. The place for a lady to go for all of her deisel repairs! 10-8-2025

Very pleased, they were honest, communicated well and explained everything going on with my Duramax Diesel Turbo. Two other companies told me they had to replace the turbo for $7,800. Gem State took a look and found a leak in the cold side intake was all, so $700 fix versus $7,800. Thanks for taking the time to evaluate the issues and for being honest. I am now a lifetime customer and will refer all my buddies to you!

These guys rock! They have taken care of all of our diesel trucks for several years now. Clean, organized and great communicators as to what needs to be repaired. Fair prices and honest people. We replaced a high pressure oil pump on a truck a year ago, brought it back in with an oil leak that needed diagnosed. The pump had failed and they replaced it under warranty with no questions asked. The team at Gem State is great. They tell you straight what they recommend, and do inflate with extras. Service was quick, professional and turned out great. They had to pull the cab off my truck and while in there recommended additional service which would save me time and money down the road. Had a great experience and will go there again. Plan to keep my truck till it hits 500,000 miles!

The team was quick to diagnose the issue and handled the repair without trying to upsell me on a full replacement or unnecessary work. They even suggested some preventative maintenance I could do down the road, but there was zero pressure—just solid advice. It’s refreshing to find a mechanic who’s honest, straightforward, and focused on what really needs to be done. I’ll definitely be back for future work and highly recommend them to anyone looking for trustworthy service.

I was in a tight spot, visiting the Boise area from Las Vegas, when the shifter in my F350 went out on me. I brought it in on Monday needing to travel back home on Wednesday. The dealership had no space so they referred me to Gem State Diesel. They were able to get me in that day and diagnosed my brake pads needed replaced and transmission serviced. They were able to get everything done by Tuesday late morning. I was able to leave on Wednesday as planned and the truck drove outstanding. Thank you!

I took my truck to Gem State for a second opinion after a local deal told me I med at new DPF @ 60K miles, for the cost of $3,500. Gem State diagnosed my truck and determined that I did not need a new DPF. They took time to explain everything to me, gave me recommendations for the future and only charged me a diagnosis fee ($260). In the end my truck is running great and they save me about $3,300. Very professional, very honest. They could have easily told me and charged me the same as the dealership.

Update 4/1/25: The team at Gem State continue to do great work. Super communication, fast and quality service with competitive pricing. They are consistently 5 star!! While the answer you get is not always the answer you want to hear you have to appreciate the honesty and expertise of Gem State. They told me what was wrong with my truck and never tried to oversell me. They actually recommended me to not have the work done since the truck was not worth it. Gem State diesel has made a customer for life out of me.

Took my husband’s 2001 2500 Ram diesel in for a brake job and a multipoint inspection. Joe and team did a thorough inspection. They sent timely communication and pictures and we had more than 1 call to discuss what was urgent and what could wait for repair. Joe was patient and thorough in his explanations. Had my Turbo replaced at GMC down in Mountain Home and intermittently smoked on passenger side afterwards. A quick google suggested that the exhaust was loose so I took it back to MH GMC but they couldn’t find a problem. Of course it continued to smoke so rather than drive the 50+ miles back to mountain home, I took it over to Gem State. They fixed the loose exhaust at their minimum charge. Very refreshing to get an auto repair and not feel violated. Super friendly! It’s only Gem State Diesel & Turbo for my Duramax going forward

Gem State Diesel is the only place i trust to work on my truck. They are thorough, honest and fair. Heck, they have even talked me out of having work done and shown me how i might do something myself, or accomplish something for less money. Total opposite of the “stealership” maintenance dept common practices in my experience. If you need the professionals, then Joe at the front desk and all the technicians in the back are who you go to at Gem State. I almost hate leaving a positive review out of fear it will be harder to get an appointment the next time preventative maintenance is due, however it is deserved and earned.

Engine light on my Chevy Duramax came on on Thursday. I called the dealership and they never bothered to call me back. So I called Bryan at Gem State, and he got me in on Friday diagnosed the problem, and had me fixed by noon. My 03 6.0 started running rough and blowing smoke. Gem state was able to get me in quickly, got the problem sorted out and a game plan for repair with no hard sell. The work was done right and in the time and cost estimated. I have since had the time to run the truck though the driving range and its running better than it has in over a year. I am very happy with the outcome and the quality of the work backed up by warranty make the costs reasonable. I would not hesitate to recommend Gem State to anyone.

When my 2008 F250 went into limp mode and I called Gem State Diesel they immediately instilled confidence with their detailed knowledge and wealth of experience. They knew the main issues with my truck’s 6.4L and confirmed the problem during diagnosis. I am not a gear head so appreciated their willingness to talk through the repair options, value and longevity of the options, and additional maintenance going forward. These repairs are not cheap but I have confidence it was done professionally, correctly, and have a 2 year warranty for peace of mind.

I called them in a pinch with my work truck when my check engine light and DEF system light came on. They had me come in the following day and by 5pm my truck was fixed and back on the road to work. Mucho appreciated and I also like the honesty and advice given. Keep up the great work!

I was so busy with work I couldn't go into the shop. I had to do all my transactions over the phone. If I left a message I always got a timely response. The staff were always polite and willing to answer my questions. They found the issue quickly and got it fixed in a timely manner. The price was also fair for the parts and labor.

These guys know their diesel trucks! Saved us money and helped us keep our truck instead of having to buy a new one. Always our first call when there is an issue. Very helpful, upfront with costs and great warranty on their work.

We took our 350 Ford Diesel Truck to these guys for a major repair and they were amazing! They diagnosed the exact issue, repaired it and it runs great. Very honest, clean and a professional shop. They were very knowledgable and very reasonable with the cost. We have looked for a place to take our truck for repairs that you can trust and is honest in their work and dealings and we will use these guys as our "go to" place! Highly recommended!
